Lens choice can dramatically affect the look of your subject matter and a skillset often over looked or underestimated by aspiring photographers. We’ll delve into different types of lenses, their functions, and overall style they can achieve across a variety of subject matter. We will also discuss when you would choose one lens over another, different shooting techniques, and desired outcomes. All skill levels are welcome.

Alex Kent’s natural sense of curiosity and a drive for exploration have shaped both his life and his work behind the camera. His photographic interests are broad— ranging from travel, adventure, and nature to architecture, abstract, and portraiture. As an avid outdoorsman and child-at-heart, he’s been found lying in the brush, chest-deep in water, or climbing a tree to “get the shot”. 2026 marks Alex’s 20th anniversary as an educator, and he’s spent the past two decades helping others grow their skillsets and be inspired. He brings an approachable and engaging style to his presentations from his widely diverse experiences in education and the creative industries. Alex currently serves as President of the Arkansas Outdoor Photographer’s Club and works as a commercial photographer, educator, and public speaker.
